New York Fashion week has once again come and gone but the inspiration that it left behind remains alive and well. From Oscar De La Renta’s ethereal and monochromatic crop-top and skirt combo in robin egg blue to those rather interesting bowl-cut wigs that took center stage at Marc Jacobs’ presentation, it’s undeniable that as far as this season is concerned: anything goes.

I was so intrigued by the lack of any consistent trend at NYFW that I eventually got to thinking about the “2010s” in general. What will this decade be remembered for? Take the 1960s, for example. Now that was a decade where flower power became King and your jeans could never be too belled.  The 1920s? Even easier to envision. In fact, most of us slipped into Gatsby-inspired outfits for the Muckraker Speakeasy party last year. Even the 1990s, far more familiar to us, manages to evoke the flannel shirt and distressed denim with platform clog pairing at the drop of a hat. But the 2010s? It is just not as obvious.

After asking a few of you what you thought about the 2010s and what our packaged “Halloween costume” will look like for future generations, the answer was unanimous: it really could be anything. In a decade where women can wear suits, men can wear skirts, grunge is God and preppy is perfection, this sentiment is certainly true. The 2010s are a decade of possibilities for self-expression.

With the streets as your runway and inspiration, muckin’ do your thing! Whatever you may choose to showcase, it’s yours and it’s beautiful.

If I went to Hogwarts, I’d be in: Ravenclaw because I have a running list of “favorite libraries,” broken down by architectural style, ease of studying, and depth of collection.

My Favorite Ice Cream Flavor is: Honey Lavender from Bi-Rite in San Francisco because I have good memories of eating it while sitting on the grass in Alamo Park and listening to tinny music from my phone.

I’d rather be stranded on a desert island with someone I don’t like than alone because: Stockholm Syndrome would eventually kick in.

The best gift I have ever received was: cash.

If I won the mega-lottery I would: fake my own demise and have my friends reenact the classic British comedy “Waking Ned Devine.”

I secretly love: The Sims because it taught me important life lessons, like: if you don’t take care of yourself, the clown from your ill-advised wall decoration will come to life and taunt your sadness.

The best pizza topping is: Basil.

To stay sane during law school I make a point to: pretend I live downtown and spend as little time on campus as possible.

The three things that I could never live without are:

1.My collection of novels, because where would I be without Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner? Probably still in law school.

2. The Golden Girls, because I aspire to channel the strength and sartorial flair of Bea Arthur.

3. Gchat, because Google has ensnared me in their procrastination ecosystem.

My favorite restaurant in the City is: my college roommate’s kitchen because she throws gourmet dinner parties featuring dishes I could never regularly afford, and I am surrounded by friends without having to make a reservation for a large party.

The one piece of clothing I should probably throw away but never will is: my red wool coat that I bought when I was sixteen, because the color is gorgeous and it helps people spot me from a distance. Since I am directionally challenged, I need all the assistance I can get.

I am inspired by: Carl Sagan because “if you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.”

My favorite James Bond is: Idris Elba because I live in an alternate reality where Idris Elba is James Bond.
