Maybe it’s because Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Christmas not far behind, but I’m feeling a little nostalgic. This usually happens to me every year—about the same time Starbucks resurrects those beautiful little red cups out of some mysterious stock room like clockwork. I really love those little red cups.

The holiday season makes me want to wrap myself in the white fluffy blanket that my grandmother knitted me when I was a little girl, dig up old photos of my cousins and I playing games in my backyard and slip on my fiancé’s coziest oversized winter sweater on my trek to the Engineering Library (by far the best and cleanest place to study). Am I the only one itching for a snowy finals week?

The final fashionistas of 2014—Mayra Joachin and Phil Cushing—both have a great sense of style, but also great hearts. The perfect way to ring and end to a fantastic year, indeed.

Name:  Mayra Joachin

Hometown: Norwalk, California

Undergrad: University of California, Los Angeles

If I could vacation anywhere in the world tomorrow I’d go to Italy because I could spend days with my relatives enjoying Italian meals and drinking wine along the sea.

Most people don’t know that I plan to become fluent in 5 languages. I’m currently at 2.3.

The one food during the Holiday season I will never pass up is pan con pollo, a Salvadoran dish. Fact: It’s the juiciest, most delicious chicken sandwich that exists.

When I was a kid I was terrified of being in confined spaces and of fire.

I am most inspired by individuals who are successful despite contrary social expectations.

Over the winter holiday, you’ll most likely find me at home drinking hot chocolate and watching movies with my sisters.

If I could be famous for any one thing I’d choose to invent a functioning time machine. I’d love to travel through time.

My favorite movie is “Life is Beautiful” because it confronts pain and uncertainty with optimism and selflessness.

If I were a new addition to a crayon box the color I’d be is jade, because it’s variant, colorful, blatant, and elegant.

The three things I could never imagine my life without are:

  1. Maps
  2. Mangoes
  3. Those closest to me

I want to be remembered for creating opportunities for those who lack them.

Name: Phil Cushing

Most people don’t know that I am freaked out by gum.

The one food during the Holiday season I will never pass up are my mom’s sweet potato rolls because they are perfectly sweet, salty, and warm, which are arguably the three best adjectives to describe Thanksgiving.

When I was a kid I was terrified of the wind because I saw the movie “Twister” and was convinced that every gust of wind was the start of a tornado.

I am most inspired by my Dad because he came from nothing and worked incredibly hard, all to provide for his family.

Over the winter holiday you’ll most likely find me skiing, traveling, and watching an aggressive number of movies.

If I were a cartoon character I’d be Bert from Sesame Street because I have an uncanny resemblance.

If I could be famous for any one thing I would choose to be a comedian because there is no better feeling than laughing and making others laugh.

My favorite movie is “Collateral” because it is the perfect mix of action, thriller, and drama.

If I were a new addition to a crayon box the color I’d be is “You’re My Boy Blue” because how is that not a color already?

The three things I could never imagine my life without are:

  1. My fiancée (the writer of this article)
  2. My family
  3. My friends

I want to be remembered for putting a smile on your face.
