LLL-header

It seems like every single time I pass a newsstand, turn on the television or open our emails, there is a new horror, a new terrible thing that I will convince myself will end all of humanity. My addiction to the Daily Mail app, “Mail Online,” hasn’t helped. My own personal escape from the world that we live in has been the beautiful town of Stars Hallow (anyone else binge watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix?). I have grown to appreciate those people in the CLS community that are relentlessly positive. For me, positivity has become synonymous with two amazing people that I’ve met at CLS: Dane Thorley and Alexandra Swain. For those of you who don’t yet know the CLS students featured in this issue, I recommend that you get around to it. Where do you find positivity in in your day and life?

Name: Dane Thorley

Hometown: Orem, Utah

Undergrad: Brigham Young University

I am most inspired by: people who act on their beliefs/principles.

Most people don’t know: that I speak Korean.

My favorite Halloween Treat is: Sour Patch Kids.

My best Halloween costume was: Super Bowl Steve Young (three years in a row).

My worst Halloween costume was: Sheet Ghost.

The one thing I could never live without is: my little family.

When I was a young I was terrified of:  dark water because of an X-files episode I accidentally turned to one night.

If was a girl my name would have been: Tess.

My favorite place to escape school is: the Utah desert because I can be alone.

The best study spot on campus is: the secret room in the East Asian library because I can be alone.

If could go back in time I’d like to go back to: the 80’s because everyone was so excited about the future.

The article of clothing that most closely describes my personality is: my Timex Weekender watch because it is simple, functional, and slightly rugged.

Name: Alexandra Swain

Hometown: Durham, NC

Undergrad: Duke University

I am most inspired by my mom because she is impossibly strong.

Most people don’t know that: I want to open a children’s fashion boutique when I’m retired and I am obsessed with lavender.

My favorite Halloween Treat is: mulled wine.

My best Halloween costume was: Cleopatra.

My worst Halloween costume was: a generic pop star in middle school that was mistaken for Lil’ Kim. Disaster!

I couldn’t live without:  my violin and my best friends from college. Both comfort and challenge me in an extraordinary way.

When I was a young I was terrified of: thunder. I still am.

If was a boy my name would have been: Alexander.

My favorite place to escape school is: any concert because good live music sweeps me away like nothing else can.

The best study spot on campus is: the architecture library.

The article of clothing that most closely describes my personality is:  my pearl necklace because it’s classic and goes with everything.
